One of the biggest cons of not sleeping well is your eating habits. When you do not sleep well, you wake up groggy, tired and chances are, you’ll also feel the need to eat more than often. This is because undersleeping, or sleeping for fewer hours affects the functioning of ghrelin, which is a hunger hormone that controls and stimulates appetite. So, when you don’t sleep well, you tend to eat more than usual.

Another hunger hormone which is impacted by poor sleep cycles is leptin. Leptin signals your body the time it’s okay to stop eating. Disrupted levels of leptin would fail to alert your body well, throw off regular eating cycles and make you vulnerable to bingeing, or overeating. This is the reason why sleep-deprived individuals feel hungrier than others.
