Art’s alive in Escolta | Lifestyle

On 21 March, a gallery within the historical Calvo Building in Escolta, Manila opened its doors to the public.

The inaugural opening of The Art District Gallery featured its first art exhibit, a group show entitled Maynila.

The exhibit ran for a month and featured 22 of the country’s top contemporary artists.

Despite the lockdown in the entire capital region during the duration of the exhibit, all of the art pieces exhibited were sold within weeks before the last day of the show on 21 April.

The Maynila group show was curated by artist/curator Jim Orencio and featured the works of (in alphabetical order) Alex Aguilar, Ejem Alarcon, Sariel Ancheta, Aldron Anchinges, Japs Antido, Demosthenes Campos, Kel Cruz, Demetrio de la Cruz, Domeng de la Cruz, Ces Eugenio, Pedro Garcia II, Riel Hilario, Philipp Ines, Wenn Licuanan, Eric Masangkay, Jim Orencio, Jucar Raquepo, Ioannis Sicuya, Adrian Trijo, Roma Valles, Jay Viriña and Chino Yulo.

Following the success of its first group exhibit, The Art District Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of its second group exhibit.

The show is entitled Maynila: Noon at Ngayon and will feature the works of sculptors Ral Arrogante, Wilson William Baldemor, Richard Buxani, Frederic Caedo, Xiao Chua, Joe Datuin, Chris Magbuhos, Carlito Ortega, Sam Penaso, Rodel Rillera and Jun Rodrigo Vicaldo.
