SRH vs MI, IPL 2021: 5 big decisions Kane Williamson needs to take to bounce back against Mumbai Indians- The bottom-placed team in IPL 2021 points table, Sunrisers Hyderabad, will face off defending champions Mumbai Indians at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Wednesday. After losing 5 out of their last six captains, SRH named Kane Williamson of New Zealand as their new skipper but it could not stop their misery. RR defeated them by 55 runs in their previous, coupled by a strange decision to leave out David Warner in the playing XI.

However, Williamson is expected to turn back the tide in the favour of SRH in their bid to qualify for IPL 2021 playoffs during the 2nd phase of IPL 2021. They need to win at least 6 matches (a herculean task) in order to qualify in the playoffs. Can SRH do it? Well, it is possible. All they need to do is make 5 big decisions to bounce back against MI which they have failed to execute during crunch situations in IPL 2021 so far.

David Warner back in playing XI

SRH needs to bring back their star opening batsman David Warner in the playing XI. The decision to open with Manish Pandey backfired in the previous match against RR. He has scored 193 runs in six matches in IPL 2021 at an average of 32+. The left-handed batsman may not be at his very best but he is a match-winner for the Orange army.

Should Vijay Shankar continue in playing XI?

All-rounder Vijay Shankar has failed to deliver in the middle-order. He manages just 54 runs in 5 innings and 3 wickets in the ongoing season. He failed to keep the run rate under control in numerous run chases.

Vijay Shankar’s scores in IPL 2021: 11, 3, 28, 8, 4

Basil Thampi, who has taken 17 wickets in 20 IPL matches, can replace Vijay Shankar in the lineup even though he can only contribute with the bat. In IPL 2021 first phase Shankar was unable to contribute with the bat and ball.

Middle-order turnaround

The batting order relies heavily on big four: David Warner, Kane Williamson, Jonny Bairstow and Manish Pandey.

SRH batsmen with the likes of Vijay Shankar, Abdul Samad, Kedar Jadhav, Virat Singh have failed to deliver in as many as 6 losses in IPL 2021. They had roped in Kedar Jadhav for Rs 2 crore to strengthen their middle-order but he too has flopped with the bat. It’s high time, SRH middle-order batsmen deliver for them in remaining matches if they are to qualify in the IPL 2021 playoffs.

NOTE: SRH have experimented a lot of players in the middle order including use of youngsters Virat Singh and Abhishek Sharma, but all of them have failed to deliver.

Play the right combination of bowlers

The SRH pacers need to pull up their socks in 2nd phase. They have failed to perform for SRH in both the powerplay and death overs. The bowling department relies heavily on Rashid Khan.

Bhuvenshwar Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed, Sandeep Sharma, J Suchith, Siddharth Kaul and Abhishek Sharma have failed to provide consistent performance.

Adding to their woes, T Natarajan suffered knee injury and ruled out for IPL 2021. Besides this, experienced seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar suffered niggle ahead of their encounter against CSK.

SRH need to decide their final 4 overseas players

Sunrisers have experimented a lot with their overseas lineup. They have used all the players, including Jason Holder and Mohammad Nabi but they have failed to come up with match-winning performances. They played with Kane Williamson, Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan and Jonny Bairstow as David Warner was left out of the playing XI in their previous match.
