And onto to the main show. As we know, Victoria recorded four new cases of coronavirus, all in members of the same household.
Mr Merlino said the family of four was from Reservoir, in Melbourne’s north, and multiple exposure sites were added last night, including some retail settings.
“There are likely to be more to come,” he said.
Mr Merlino said Victorian authorities would be interviewing the couple who left the state to drive to Queensland via New South Wales later today.
The couple, aged in their 40s, have both tested positive to the virus within the last 24 hours.
“It’s important to note that if they were relocating, that is not a breach of directions here in Victoria, but we just don’t know so we will have those discussions with those individuals today. But obviously this is all concerning information.“
Mr Merlino also issued a call for more people to get tested after almost 24,000 people did so yesterday.
“That’s a strong number and I want to thank everyone who came out to be tested yesterday, but given the record numbers over the last week or so, I think that we can do better,” he said.
“That’s … giving us the clear picture to provide public health advice in order for us to ease restrictions.”
