Met Gala 2021: Our best dressed picks

A number of stars arrived in over the top statement looks (Picture: Getty)

Oh how we have awaited the Met Gala’s glamorous return.

After last year’s grand event was cancelled, we’ve been waiting with baited breath, excited to see the glitterati of Hollywood pull out all the stops for the red carpet.

There were classic, safe outfits that exuded typical A-List allure, but more so there were the bold, the fabulous, and the utterly bizzare.

‘Best dressed’ is an ambiguous term, but certain looks stole the camera this year – be it for falling into the ultimate vision of beauty, or for their unique (if a little strange) statements.

We’ve rounded up the looks you couldn’t miss, in a celebration of dressing up to the nth degree:

Billie Eilish

This is how you use your power.

Not only does she look incredible, but singer Billie agreed to wear this Oscar de la Renta dress on the condition that they no longer use fur in their products – and they agreed.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

She wrote on Twitter: ‘The medium is the message’ (Picture: Getty)

A stunning white dress from the front, and a power statement piece on the back.

Alexandria’s dress reads ‘tax the rich’, making her appearance political as always given that she’s a politician for the Democrats.

Cara Delevingne

Cara – a model known for always rocking her full brows – also went for an in-yer-face statement, with a get up that reads ‘peg the patriarchy’.

The vest was designed by Dior Haute Couture.

Yara Shahidi

Yara, the actress and model, arrived in Dior Haute Couture and Cartier jewellery, opting for a classic take on black tie with old school gloves and diamonds.

Rihanna arrived with ASAP Rocky (Picture: Getty)

While this might have swamped anyone else, somehow music legend and makeup mogul Rihanna always makes it look stylish.

Here she wears Balenciaga.

Kendall Jenner

Kendall, from the Kardashian clan, wore this number from Givenchy.

It’s glitzy and covers her in sparkle, and somehow the nude underwear adds to this ethereal look.

Megan Fox

After that outfit she wore to the last big event, it’s fair to say this one went down better with fans and critics alike.

Actress Megan wears Peter Dundas and coupled with the curled in fringe, looks very cool.

Kim Kardashian

Not one to shy away from the limelight, this look was interesting from Kim.

Of course, being so unusual, it’s got everyone’s attention.

Lil Nas X, the rapper and songwriter, treated everyone to not one, but three outfits over the course of the night.

First he arrived in armour, then ended up donned a King-like number.

All three piece were custom made by Atelier Versace.

Lupita Nyong’o

Denim never looked so good (Picture: Getty)

Who said denim was casual?

Lupita’s structured Atelier Versace dress has beading details and layered fabric to show denim is what you make of it.

Timothée Chalamet

It’s smart, from the waist up (Picture: Getty)

Only actor Timothée could pull off a tailored white suit jacket with converse trainers.

What we like best is the inverse on a classic black and white tux.

He wore a collection of brands: Haider Ackermann, Rick Ownes, Converse, and Cartier.

Dan Levy

Travel is tricky right now, so Dan decided to just wear the globe on himself.

The memorable look worn by the Schitt’s Creek actor was custom Loewe and Cartier.

Amanda Gorman

Amanda’s look has a symbolic meaning to it (Picture: Getty)

It makes sense that, being a poet, Amanda’s look had many deeper layers to it.

At a first glance, it’s a striking shade of blue that a few people chose to wear last night.

But really, she wanted to embody the spirit of the Statue of Liberty.

Along with her Vera Wang dress, she wore a clutch bag that references the poem that’s inscribed on the base of the Statue itself.

Maisie Williams

Gothic never looked so glam (Picture: Getty)

The Game of Thrones actress looked striking in this dress, which impressively wasn’t made by a leading designer.

The emo vibe, Wednesday Adam look was actually made by herself and her boyfriend, Reuben Selby.

She paired it with Cartier jewellery, and has said she was inspired by The Matrix.

Jennifer Hudson

Could she look anymore goddess like? (Picture: Getty)

Jennifer set out to stun in red, her gown being from AZ Factory.

The pop singer’s fishtail dress billows out into a long trail that you can’t help but stare at.

Barbie Ferreira

Pearl never looked so fresh (Picture: Getty)

Barbie, known for her role in Euphoria, makes those pearl beaded necklaces we had as kids cool again in this frock by Jonathan Simkhai.

Not sticking to just a grown-up pearlised look, her purple eyeshadow adds something different.

Normani brought the sunshine (Picture: Theo Wargo/Getty Images)

Singer Normani looked breathtaking in this bright, fun Valentino dress.

Coupled with matching yellow-gold eyeshadow and bright blue accents, it’s one of our favourite looks from the night.

Tracee Ellis Ross

Tracee, an actress and haircare brand owner, wore a statement cobalt dress from Balenciaga.

To top it all off, she added Tiffany & Co. jewellery to her ears and wrists.

Allyson Felix

This outfit, made with ostrich feather, comes from Fendi and makes her look covered in snow (but in the most elegant way possible).

J Lo

Actress and singer J Lo turned up looking like the ultimate ‘baddie’ in Ralph Lauren.

With a long trail behind her, chunky jewellery, plunge neckline and hat, she looks incredibly powerful.

Iman showed the kids how it’s done (Picture: John Shearer/WireImage)

Not many outfits left us speechless, but model Iman’s did.

From Harris Reed, the structured feather layers are a sight to behold.

Sienna Miller

All the elements of glam (Picture: Getty)

Actress Sienna went for all the obvious modes of glam: sequins, crystals, fur – all of which are from Gucci.
