Austin Clark, Glendora: Clark was the hero in the Tartans’ CIF Southern Section Division 3A semifinal victory over Citrus Hill. He made the winning basket with 1.6 seconds left for a 55-53 victory that sent the Tartans to Thursday’s championship game against Marina. The Tartans will be playing for their fourth CIF-SS title.  “I’m just relieved,” Clark, who scored a game-high 25 points, said afterward.

Christian Gutierrez, La Mirada: Gutierrez pitched a complete-game shutout, struck out seven and walked just one in a 3-0 victory over West Ranch in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs. West Ranch entered the game with a team batting average of .377 but managed only three hits off Gutierrez, who is 9-1 this season.

Nick Hopkins, Aquinas: Hopkins averaged 30.5 points per game last week to help the Falcons advance to the CIF Southern Section Division 3AA championship game. Hopkins scored a season-high 37 points in an overtime win over Lakewood in the quarterfinals, and he followed with 24 points in the semifinals against Cerritos Valley Christian. Hopkins has scored 1,787 points during his high school career. Aquinas plays at King on Wednesday, June 9.

Jim Garrison, Mira Costa: Garrison played a huge role in a four-set win over Newport Harbor in the CIF-SS Division 1 final. The UC San Diego-bound senior led the Mustangs with 10 blocks, four kills and two aces as they won their first CIF-SS title since 2012.

Amari Bailey, Sierra Canyon: The UCLA commit led Sierra Canyon to its fourth straight CIF Southern Section Open Division final with back-to-back stellar performances. Bailey scored 38 points in an 82-70 win over Ribet Academy, including 28 points in the second half to overcome a 17-point deficit. He then led the Trailblazers in scoring in their 82-76 win over Etiwanda with 25 points.

Jason Bannister, Dana Hills: He won the CIF-SS Southern Regional championship with a 69 at Western Hills Country Club in Chino Hills. Bannister, the Dolphins team captain, won by two strokes. “He’s one of these kids who’s 100 percent about golf,” Dana Hills golf coach Glenn Forster said. “He works at El Niguel County Club in his spare time. He’s always been dedicated to the sport.” Bannister will attend the University of Southern Indiana in the fall.
