London has been named the most popular destination UK holidaymakers want to visit after lockdown, according to data from Expedia.
The holiday bookings platform has unveiled the top 10 UK destinations that Brits are considering for trips between June to August, with the English capital having proven the top choice, followed by Devon and North Cornwall.
According to the data, the cheapest time to visit the city in 2021 is June. (Despite its reputation for being expensive, there are budget-friendly stays – Expedia has a handy guide to the best cheap hotels here ).
Even sightseeing doesn’t need to cost you a penny thanks to a handy walking route that takes you past iconic sights including the London Eye, Buckingham Palace and the Tower of London.
June actually proved to be the cheapest month for seven out of the top 10 destinations (you can check out the full list below). This could of course be because some restrictions are still likely to be in place then.
Boris Johnson said that the government was hoping for a June 21 date for a return to restriction-free living in England, not to mention that some of the booking data was acquired before he made his announcement on Monday, although it does also include the bookings made after he spoke.
Since England’s lockdown roadmap was announced, Expedia has noted a 60% increase in demand for domestic holidays, as well as 20% for international getaways.

It’s worth noting that holidays are set to return in stages in England, with self-contained accommodation expected to open first (such as holiday parks and campsites) before hotels and other accommodation can reopen. We have a guide with key dates for holidaymakers although it’s worth noting these are subject to change depending on the Covid-19 situation in England.
